How Tripura sets minimum wages

Governing law

Code on Wages, 2019, in force from 21 November 2025. The rates below come from the Labour Department's notification No. F.22(74)-LAB/ENF/MW/SHOPS/2022/660-77 revising VDA with effect from 1 April 2026.

Revision cycle

1 April and 1 October each year

Tripura notifies each scheduled employment separately, and the shops notification carries its own file number. The rates are monthly, with a basic wage and a cumulative VDA that the notification shows as the allowance carried forward plus the increment for the half-year; the April 2026 increment was worked out on a 59-point rise in the CPI over July to December 2025. The VDA column above adds the two together and rounds to the rupee, which is how the notification arrives at its totals. Tripura has no highly skilled category for shops and uses job titles to define the three grades: peons and night guards are unskilled, weighmen and porters semi-skilled, and clerks, salesmen, cashiers, accountants and data entry operators skilled. The rates are among the lowest in the country, below every large state except Rajasthan.
