How Chhattisgarh sets minimum wages

Governing law

Code on Wages, 2019, in force from 21 November 2025. The rates below come from the Labour Department's notification dated 11 May 2026, effective 1 April 2026.

Revision cycle

1 April and 1 October each year

Chhattisgarh's zones are drawn around named cities rather than by municipal class, and the 16 km and 8 km bands around them matter: a shop just outside Raipur's corporation limit is still in Zone A. A factory with 300 or more workers is treated as Zone A wherever it is. The basic rates step up by ₹10 a day per zone within each category, and the variable dearness allowance of ₹3,082 a month is the same for every row, so a revision moves all twelve figures by the same amount. The notification was dated 11 May 2026 but takes effect from 1 April, so April wages paid at the old rate carry arrears. Chhattisgarh notifies agricultural employment on the same basic rates but with a lower daily VDA because it counts 30 days to the month rather than 26.

Frequently asked questions: Chhattisgarh minimum wages

For shops and commercial establishments from 1 April 2026, unskilled work starts at ₹11,402 a month in Zone A, ₹11,142 in Zone B and ₹10,882 in Zone C. Highly skilled work reaches ₹13,612 in Zone A. Each figure includes ₹3,082 of variable dearness allowance.
The Raipur, Durg and Bhilai municipal corporations and everything within 16 km of their limits, plus industrial areas and any factory with 300 or more workers. Zone B is the other eight municipal corporations with an 8 km band, and Zone C is the rest of the state.
The monthly figure divided by 26. ₹11,402 a month for unskilled work in Zone A gives ₹439 a day. Agricultural employment uses 30 days, which is why its daily VDA is lower on the same monthly figure.
Twice a year, on 1 April and 1 October, by revising the variable dearness allowance. The current rates run to 30 September 2026. Notifications usually arrive a month or more after the effective date, so budget for arrears.
