Jharkhand runs one table for every employment, so the shop rate, the factory rate and the security agency rate are the same for a given zone and skill. The basic rates were fixed from 11 March 2024 on a CPI base of 386 points, and the VDA is a straight percentage of basic: the April 2026 order works out the rise in the all-India index over July to December 2025 as 39 points, or 10 per cent, and adds that to every row, rounded to the rupee. The notification gives daily and monthly figures separately and they do not reconcile exactly at 26 days because each is rounded on its own; the monthly figures above are the notified ones. The order was signed on 25 May 2026 with effect from 1 April, so April and May wages paid at the old rate carry arrears. Zone A is a named list of nine urban bodies rather than a class of town, and everything else that has an urban local body is Zone B.

What is the minimum wage in Jharkhand?

From 1 April 2026, unskilled work is ₹13,385 a month in Zone A, ₹12,756 in Zone B and ₹12,155 in Zone C. Highly skilled work reaches ₹21,336 in Zone A. One table applies to all employments, under the Labour Commissioner's notification of 25 May 2026.

How is the Jharkhand VDA calculated?

As a percentage of the basic wage equal to the rise in the all-India CPI for industrial workers over the previous half-year, measured against the 386-point base on which the basic rates were fixed. For April 2026 the index averaged 425, a rise of 39 points or 10 per cent, so the VDA is 10 per cent of basic in every row.

Do Jharkhand shops have their own minimum wage schedule?

No. Jharkhand fixes one set of rates for all employments by zone and skill category, so a shop, a hotel and a factory in Ranchi pay the same floor for unskilled work.

How often does Jharkhand revise minimum wages?

The VDA is revised on 1 April and 1 October each year, and the notification usually issues a month or two after the effective date with arrears payable. The basic rates are revised less often, most recently from 11 March 2024.
