How Chandigarh sets minimum wages

Governing law

Code on Wages, 2019, in force from 21 November 2025. The rates below come from the Chandigarh Administration Labour Department's notification dated 16 December 2025, effective 1 October 2025.

Revision cycle

1 April and 1 October each year, notified in arrears

Chandigarh's schedule is compressed: the whole range from unskilled to highly skilled spans only ₹1,075 a month, and semi-skilled and skilled each split into grades I and II a hundred or two hundred rupees apart. Office staff are graded in three classes that sit within the same band. The union territory notifies twice a year but late; the October 2025 revision was signed on 16 December 2025, and the April 2026 revision had not been notified by September 2026, so employers are paying the October 2025 figures and should provision for arrears from April. The rates are consolidated, with the dearness allowance built into the single figure, and the daily rate is the monthly figure divided by 26. Chandigarh follows the Punjab pattern of a development tax on salaried employees.

Frequently asked questions: Chandigarh minimum wages

₹14,562 a month or ₹560 a day for unskilled work, rising through semi-skilled grades II and I at ₹14,712 and ₹14,812 and skilled grades II and I at ₹15,012 and ₹15,237 to ₹15,637 for highly skilled work, under the notification of 16 December 2025 effective 1 October 2025.
Not as of September 2026. The revision falls due on 1 April and 1 October each year, but the April 2026 notification had not issued. When it does it will take effect from 1 April 2026, so employers should hold a provision for arrears.
Three grades for clerical and office staff: class III at ₹14,837 a month, class II at ₹14,987 and class I at ₹15,347. They sit between the skilled and highly skilled rates for manual categories.
Yes. Chandigarh notifies a single consolidated figure per category with the dearness allowance built in, and the whole figure moves at each revision.
