How Madhya Pradesh sets minimum wages

Governing law

Code on Wages, 2019, in force from 21 November 2025. The rates below come from the Labour Commissioner's notification dated 31 March 2026, effective 1 April 2026.

Shops and commercial establishments

Revision cycle

1 April and 1 October each year

Madhya Pradesh notifies a monthly basic and a monthly VDA, and the daily rate is the total divided by 26. The VDA of ₹2,850 is the same for every category, so each half-yearly revision adds the same amount to all four rows. The same table covers 67 scheduled employments; only agriculture, with a lower VDA, and a handful of industries such as slate pencil manufacturing and printing presses have their own rates. The state has issued its revisions on time in the last two cycles, on 1 October 2025 and 31 March 2026, which is better than most of its neighbours. Madhya Pradesh has no zones, so Indore, Bhopal and a district town pay the same floor.
