Minimum Wages in Nagaland
Minimum wage rates for all scheduled employments in Nagaland, by skill category, with the effective date and the next revision due.
A revision is pending before the state cabinet
The State Minimum Wages Advisory Board proposed ₹297, ₹355 and ₹400 a day for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled work. At its meeting of 23 March 2026 the cabinet referred the proposal back to the Finance Department, and no notification had issued by September 2026. The 2019 rates below remain the legal floor until it does.
Nagaland minimum wage rates: all scheduled employments
Nagaland applies a single rate across the state and across all 19 scheduled employments, with no zone classification.
| Skill category | Per day | Total per month |
|---|---|---|
| Unskilled | ₹176 | ₹4,576 |
| Skilled grade II (semi-skilled) | ₹210 | ₹5,460 |
| Skilled grade I | ₹235 | ₹6,110 |
Nagaland notifies a single consolidated figure per category rather than a separate basic and dearness allowance, so the table shows the total only.
Rates cover all scheduled employments only. Other employments notified in Nagaland carry their own notified rates, which are usually higher. Verify against the state notification before running payroll.
How Nagaland sets minimum wages
Governing law
Code on Wages, 2019, in force from 21 November 2025. The rates below come from the Department of Labour's notification of 14 June 2019, which predates the Code and continues in force under the savings in section 69(2).
Employment covered
All scheduled employments
Revision cycle
No fixed cycle; last revised 14 June 2019, with a revision before the state cabinet
Nagaland has the lowest notified minimum wage in the country and has not revised it since 14 June 2019. The notification fixes daily rates for three categories, unskilled, skilled grade II and skilled grade I, with no dearness allowance and no monthly figure; the monthly amounts above are the daily rates multiplied by 26 and are shown for comparison only. The unskilled rate of ₹176 sits below the ₹178 national floor wage the Centre announced in 2017, and far below the floor the Code on Wages contemplates under section 9. A revision to ₹297, ₹355 and ₹400 a day was recommended by the advisory board and reached the cabinet in March 2026, where it was sent back for re-examination. In practice most formal employers in Dimapur and Kohima pay well above the notified floor, and central sphere rates apply to establishments under central government control.
