Understanding Rajasthan's Holiday Calendar in 2026

Rajasthan runs one of the longest declared holiday lists in India, and it is longer than it first appears because the state recognises a set of regional figures, Maharana Pratap, Baba Ramdev and Deonarayan, that no other state observes. For employers used to a North Indian calendar built around Delhi's list, Rajasthan adds several full closures in months that are otherwise quiet.

The state's economy shapes how the calendar bites. Tourism in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer peaks in exactly the winter months when the holiday density is highest, so hospitality employers face maximum demand and minimum staffing at the same time. Manufacturing and mining operations in the state face a different problem: a long list of single-day closures scattered across the year, which is harder to plan around than a concentrated shutdown.

For payroll, commercial establishments fall under the Rajasthan Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, with factories governed separately. The state issues its holiday notification through the Department of Personnel each year, splitting general holidays from a longer optional list.

National Holidays in Rajasthan

Of the three national days, only Republic Day on Monday, January 26 and Gandhi Jayanti on Friday, October 2 cost Rajasthan a working day, and both produce long weekends. Independence Day falls on Saturday, August 15 and is absorbed by the weekend.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti on Tuesday, April 14 is a declared holiday across Rajasthan. It sits close to a cluster of optional dates in mid-April (Jyotiba Phule Jayanti on April 11 and Parshuram Jayanti on April 19), so the month carries more disruption than the single gazetted day suggests.

Rajasthan-Specific Holidays

Maharana Pratap Jayanti on Wednesday, June 17 is the most distinctly Rajasthani date on the calendar. It commemorates the Mewar ruler who resisted Akbar, and observance is strongest in Udaipur and the surrounding Mewar region. It is a full statewide closure and falls in June, a month with almost no holidays elsewhere in India, so multi-state employers routinely miss it.

Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashami on Monday, September 21 is another Rajasthan-only closure, honouring the folk deities Baba Ramdev and Veer Tejaji. The Ramdevra fair in Jaisalmer district draws very large numbers, and travel across western Rajasthan is heavy around this date.

Rajasthan splits Holi across two declared days: Holika Dahan on Monday, March 2 and Dhulandi on Tuesday, March 3. Most northern states declare only one. Combined with a weekend, that gives a four-day break at the start of March, which is a genuine planning consideration for anything with a quarter-end dependency.

The Diwali stretch runs Deepawali on Sunday, November 8, Govardhan Puja on Monday, November 9, and Bhai Dooj on Wednesday, November 11. Because Deepawali itself falls on a Sunday in 2026, the effective break starts on the Monday, and Tuesday, November 10 sits as an isolated working day in the middle that most staff will try to take as leave.

Navratri matters commercially in Rajasthan beyond its single declared day. Durga Ashtami on Monday, October 19 and Vijaya Dashami on Tuesday, October 20 are declared, but the nine-day Navratri period preceding them sees reduced activity, particularly in retail and jewellery trades where auspicious-purchase timing drives sales patterns.

Restricted Holidays in Rajasthan

Rajasthan's optional list for 2026 is long: Deonarayan Jayanti on January 25, Cheti Chand on March 20, Jyotiba Phule Jayanti on April 11, Parshuram Jayanti on April 19, World Tribal Day on August 9, and Navratra Sthapana with Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti on October 11.

Three of the six fall on Sundays in 2026 (Deonarayan Jayanti, Parshuram Jayanti, and the October 11 pairing), which sharply reduces their practical value to employees. That concentrates demand onto Cheti Chand and Jyotiba Phule Jayanti, and onto ordinary earned leave for anyone who observes the Sunday dates.

World Tribal Day on August 9 is worth handling deliberately if you operate in the southern tribal districts around Banswara, Dungarpur, and Udaipur. Observance there is substantial even though the day barely registers in Jaipur, and a statewide policy that treats it as a minor optional date will read badly at those sites.

Leaving that Tuesday ambiguous guarantees a wave of individual leave requests. Decide before October whether it is a working day, a company holiday, or a mandatory leave day.
