Understanding Puducherry's Holiday Calendar in 2026

Puducherry's calendar looks close to Tamil Nadu's, with Pongal, Tamil New Year, Vinayagar Chathurthi and Ayudha Pooja, but the Union Territory is geographically scattered across four non-contiguous enclaves, and that shapes the list. Puducherry and Karaikal are Tamil-speaking, Mahé is Malayalam-speaking and surrounded by Kerala, and Yanam is Telugu-speaking and surrounded by Andhra Pradesh. The declared list has to serve all four.

Restricted Holidays in Puducherry

Puducherry's optional list is minimal. For 2026 the second day of Eid ul-Adha on Thursday, May 28 is the principal optional date.

The brevity follows from the short gazetted list.
