Understanding Odisha's Holiday Calendar in 2026

Odisha declares 29 general holidays for 2026 alongside 9 optional holidays, notified by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department. The calendar is organised around the Jagannath tradition and the Odia agricultural year rather than the pan-India festival list, and several of its largest days have no counterpart in any other state.

The most striking feature is what is absent. Durga Puja runs three general holidays: Mahasaptami on Saturday October 17, Mahanavami on Monday October 19, and Vijaya Dasami on Tuesday October 20. Mahasaptami falling on a Saturday means the block costs two working days rather than three, and note that Mahashtami on October 18 is not declared because it falls on a Sunday.
